About This Course

Everybody hates accounting. It's boring. It’s not exciting but it is Important.  Whether you are discussing the results of a business at board level, or you are talking to your Finance Director or Manager, accountant, your banker (or worse still the man from the KRA), it is important to understand what is included in a set of accounts.

The Goal of the Course is NOT to teach you to be a Chartered Accountant, but instead to make you think critically like an MBA. You should be confident to ask and answer questions about a set of financial accounts whether you are talking to a potential investor, your finance director or your banker.  This is not about passing an exam but being practical and being immediately better at your job.

The Presenter is definitely not boring and will share numerous anecdotes and real life examples to make the material less dull and who knows even interesting. Learn some tricks of the trade. Are profits or a surplus good? Can profits be manipulated? What are the accounts telling you?   How is the business or organisation doing? If a business is showing a profit - it can't go bust - right?

Why do a budget or business plan? You can’t predict the future?  Why does the Finance Director/Manager bother me with this exercise? Or better yet – I know my business, if you just give me Ksh X million, I know we will be successful.

Bottomline, if you want to be an effective member of a Board or management team, you have to be able to talk this lingo.  The good news however is that you do not have to spend a fortune on a MBA.  This course will go a long way towards preparing you to understand the financials of your business to make better decisions.

What You Will Learn

The Course is meant to be practical. Participants should leave the course with the following knowledge:

    • Why I will demand to see the notes to the accounts.
    • How by doing some simple division I can ask some very tough questions about a business.
    • Why doing a budget is important?
    • Does the “great” business idea that I have been presented with really stack up.
