In 2018, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 23 September as the International Day of Sign Languages in order to raise awareness of the importance of sign language in the full realization of the human rights of people who are deaf. The resolution acknowledged that early access to sign language is vital to the growth and development of the deaf individual. LI is responding to this resolution by tackling language deprivation.

On 8th April, 2019, Lugha Ishara won $10,000 as finalist of Women in Tech Cohort 2, under Strathmore University and Standard Chartered Bank.
